Tongues’ third issue opens with a tense, gorgeously rendered exchange between the Prisoner and the Swan King. We learn more about the lives and backstories of Astrid, the mysterious orphan on a mission, and the wanderer Teddy Roosevelt, whose kidnapping veers dangerously off-track. The characters’ entanglements are entwined in panels constructed from Nilsen’s signature fantastical plant forms and geometric crystalline polygons.

This is the third issue in a projected eight-part series that is, in part, a retelling of the Greek myth of Prometheus, set in the present day Middle East.
